Punta Cana Week in Paradise: Part 1

Photo HEAVY...Saturated...DRIPPING with pictures.

**I want to preface this post by saying that if you ever EVER have the chance to stay at an all inclusive resort, DO IT.  They don't lie when they say "all inclusive." We had a fridge in our room that was restocked daily (with alcohol and soda, mind you). We had unlimited access to ALL of the resort bars and restaurants...no bills, no nothing. And if you want seconds, you get seconds. A lot of the beachside activities were free, too (including snorkeling and kayaking). Not to mention the myriad options at the pool (water aerobics, morning walks, water polo, etc.) It was seriously the best money I've ever spent on a vacation, and had we not been dead set on being lazy all week, we probably would have taken advantage of even more that the resort had to offer. For anyone who is curious, we stayed at a very affordable resort in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic called Dreams Palm Beach.
----

Mike and I ran away for a week to wallow in newlywed bliss and get fat on endless food & drink. Literally endless. Day 1 was a whirlwind. We left Atlanta around 6 AM, had a quick connection in Miami, and arrived in the Dominican Republic around 12. After collecting our bags and locating our pre-paid private shuttle to the hotel (highly recommend this, btw), we were on our way to the beach. We got to the resort shortly before 1:00 and were swiftly checked in and introduced to the basic necessities on the property. We paid a bit extra to have the "preferred status" which really amounted to private check in, private pool, beach and bar, and a private restaurant for breakfast and lunch. Other than that, we received the same treatment as everyone else.

As someone who would readily choose a mountain escape over a trip to the beach (anyone remember our trip to Wyoming?) I was SERIOUSLY blown away by how gorgeous it was down there. Looking at the water flying in over the Caribbean was mesmerizing, and it was no less gorgeous after we'd landed.

Day two we took advantage of a full day without cloud cover and both of us ended up a little bit crisp to the touch by mid afternoon, even after diligently applying sunblock.

Another great thing about the DR? No trade embargo with Cuba! Mike got to enjoy some Monte Cristos while we were down there.
Pool side rum runners...who can argue?

Day three was sunny up until lunch time and then the rain set in. The clouds were appreciated, though. Our skin needed a break from the UV rays, so we took had some QT in the room watching TV and surfing the channels we could find that were in English.

Stay tuned for part two!
