So it's been about a month since I got the yard looking all fancified, and about a week ago the garden suffered its first casualties. I noticed that one of my lavender plants was not fairing well, and within the weeks that followed, all 5 of them slowly died. I don't know whether I over watered them or whether the fact that I planted them during a heat wave and drought might have contributed. All of the other flowers are thriving, including my slow growing azaleas. So I don't know what happened. =(
I dug them up and had a short funeral for them, and then headed off to Lowe's to find some replacements. As much as I wanted to have lavender, I didn't want to chance it dying again. I decided to get some pretty (and cheap) blossoms instead. I made sure they could take full sun, and even found some that bloom from spring through the fall. Hooray!
Some of the flowers in the bed by our front porch are also sprouting new blooms, so we've got quite a festival of color in our front yard and me loves it. The bright pink and purple ones with yellow centers were planted from seeds, so I had NO idea what they were going to turn out like!
